Reduce waste

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle—the 3 Rs of waste reduction—have gained international fame in recent decades, but how well do we really know them?

Recycle is certainly the best known of the group, with blue boxes and recycling bins now being fixtures in most of our homes, schools and communities.

Reduce and Reuse have never gotten quite as much attention as Recycle. Perhaps this is because they ask us to fight our own urges to buy any products we want, without considering how these products were made; how they are packaged; and where they and their packaging will end up.

This lack of attention given to the first 2 Rs is a wrong that must be righted.

We're due for some 1-on-1 time with each of the 3 Rs. While they share the common goal of keeping waste out of landfills, each has its own identity and principles, and each is definitely worth getting to know better.
